Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by holistic, integrative, and intuitive?

“Holistic” means characterized by the belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can be explained only by reference to the whole. The Holistic in Holistic Acceptance means that my approach to healing strongly considers all aspects of your being: the mind (i.e. mental health, the brain, & your thoughts), the body (your physical health, nutrition, & movement), the emotional (your feelings, your soul’s experience of your internal world and the world around you), and the spiritual (your existential outlook, your life philosophy, your religious beliefs/practices, what connects you to something “more”). You are more than one thing. In order to get the best angle for growth and healing, it is imperative to look at the whole you and to integrate practices that allow for healing in each of these areas (hence the “integrative.”)

The term “integrative” refers to practice that includes two or more disciplines or distinct approaches to care. My approach integrates multiple offering and draws from a variety of energetic practices. Doing so allows me to truly tailor each session to the best approach for my specific client and their desired goals.

Finally, I believe that each of us has within us the deep capacity to tap into our own, innate intuition. Intuition is our “inner knowing.” It’s the gut feeling that many of us have had conditioned out of us as we grew into adulthood. Not only have I learned to harness my own personal intuition to better support my clients, but I also work with clients to identify and implement ways to “tap into” and honor their own unique inner guidance.

Through these three methods, I show up for my clients to truly get to the core of their healing and wellness. These strategies have impacted my personal and professional journey, and I am confident that this holistic, integrative, and intuitive approach has the capacity to support all individuals in a deep and meaningful way.

What is energy healing and how will it feel?

All of life’s work relies on energy. Inside the cells of all living things, energy is required to carry out life processes. Our energy also impacts our overall well-being, behavior, and relationships. Energy healing is a complex intervention with the purpose of enhancing wholeness within the client.

Energy healing is purported to impact the biofield: The biofield is a subtle energy field surrounding and permeating the body. There is a growing body of research that supports the use of energy healing in stress reduction, pain relief and management, and when combined with psychotherapy, as a support for mood and various emotional states.

Energy healing practices tend to feel relaxing and warm, creating a feeling of spaciousness, flow, connectedness, and openness in the mind and body. Occasionally, clients may experience an emotional release during or after the treatment. Some people describe muscle twitches, color visualizations, or even hot and cold sensations depending on the area being worked on. After a session, most clients report feeling relaxed with increased clarity.

It is important to note that everyone experiences energy healing differently, and some clients may not feel different or notice anything at all. This does not mean you are doing anything wrong or that the treatment was less effective.

After a session, it is recommended that you drink ample amounts of water, as well as to support yourself with a good night’s sleep. Some clients report sleeping more heavy than normal, and energy work may increase vivid dreaming.

Energy healing is best used alongside traditional medical treatments, not as a replacement. It is essential to consult with healthcare providers for serious medical conditions.

How do you incorporate mindfulness and meditation?

Mindfulness and meditation can be booked as a stand-alone service, but are also often incorporated into Reiki bookings to a client’s personal preference and comfort level. Shamanic healing arts are solely built around guided and nonguided meditation and visualization. As a separate service, clients can book sessions to increase their understanding of basic principles and components of mindfulness and meditation, as well as to practice implementation of these skills in a guided and supportive environment. It has been my personal experience that so many people get stuck when they first set out to incorporate a practice. It can feel foreign, awkward, and even overwhelming to understand where or how to start. Let’s be honest: It is really challenging to quiet our thoughts or to create a space where we feel capable of doing so! If you are looking to get started with a mindfulness and meditation practice, I can help guide you. My goal is to foster an environment that allows it to feel more tangible, attainable, and even enjoyable! Your mind, body, spirit, (and even relationships) will reap the reward!

Studies have found that mindfulness and meditation change our brain chemistry and biology in positive ways, improving both mental, emotional, and physical health. It has also been shown to be especially effective for relaxation, stress reduction, and mood stabilization.

How will I know if you are a good fit for me?

Most people will have a pretty good idea based on our initial complementary consultation. I try to be real with my clients, and I pride myself on being an authentic version of myself in sessions. Being human translates to helping other humans, and I am no stranger to the healing journey. I like to laugh as medicine, and I am a deeply good listener. I am non-judgmental at my core. I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit, that people are innately worthy of love, and that compassion for ourselves and others is the remedy for most things. Got a question - ask me. I’ll do my best to answer it honestly, and if I don’t know, I’ll find you someone who does. I want to make a difference in this world, and I hope that by doing this work I am able to teach people how to truly love themselves, wounds and all.

What can I expect from a Reiki session?

While some Reiki practitioners opt to utilize gentle physical touch, I implement the hovering of hands approach in all Reiki sessions. I made this choice in an effort to honor the personal space of many of my clients who have experienced trauma. Hovering is equally effective, deeply relaxing, and permits for the same exchange of energy. All sessions will open with completion of an intake document, as well as a talk component. During this time, I am able to gain a better understanding of your needs for the session, as well as long term energy healing goals. All clients are given the option to select the incorporation of essential oils, crystals, guided visualization, mindfulness/meditation, breathwork, and healing sounds frequencies into their session to their personal preference. At the close of the session, we will incorporate tools to ground your energy (which includes the space to explore any thoughts, images, feelings, memories, or sensations that came up during the session should you choose to do so.) Through the exchange of life force energy from practitioner to client, a Reiki energy healing session will rebalance your energy, leaving you feeling lighter in body, mind, and spirit.

How do we get started?

All you have to do is email, call, or text me to get started with a complimentary 30-minute consultation. You are also able to book that directly by clicking here and awaiting my online approval. When we settle on a time that works for us both, we’ll connect via phone or video (I prefer video, but it’s your call!)

At that time, I will answer any questions you may have, as well as get a better idea of your goals for sessions together. You will get a better feel for me, and we can discuss my style and the general process.

If we both feel like we are well suited to work together, I’ll gather some basic information from you, book your first session, and provide you with a follow-up link to access paperwork in the online portal.  This will be the online access point for navigating appointment scheduling (unless you prefer to book through me directly), and completing documents, as well as a secure portal for any private messages you might need to send me between sessions. You can also log in to access links for our online sessions, should you choose to use this option.

Tell me more about Shamanic Healing Arts?

Shamanic healing practices are recommended for clients who are looking to deepen their energetic healing practices, have been working with Ashley for a period of time, are looking for something different, and are seeking a deeper way to connect with themselves and the world around them.

Shamanism invites each of us to live in harmony with everything and to navigate life from a place of graciousness, reverence, and positive regard. As most early spiritual practices are rooted in nature - shamanism supports the connection of human beings to this natural connection.

Shamanism is considered one of the world’s oldest spiritual paths, with evidence of its existence dating back to prehistoric times. As such, shamanism predates organized religions and formal medical systems. One could view the shamanic arts as a universal wisdom accessible to all people. People of all religious and spiritual backgrounds can utilize shamanic practices for healing.

The word shamanism is understood to be derived from the Tungus word šaman, meaning one who sees in the dark or one who knows. Shamanic practices are a personal journey of restoration, healing, self-knowledge. Core shamanic practices aim to restore balance, unity, and connectedness to individuals and their respective communities.

What does a shamanic healing session look like?

Shamanic healing includes the belief that the world has two components: (1) our ordinary everyday awareness, which is formed by our habits, behaviors, patterns, beliefs, as well as social and cultural norms; and  (2) a second nonordinary awareness that we can gain access to through altered states of consciousness. The act of entering this state of consciousness is called a shamanic journey.

Shamanic cosmology separates the collective unconscious of humanity into three  distinct parts called the Lower, Middle, and Upper Worlds. These aren’t physical places, but rather archetypal domains.

For the purpose of my shamanic services, drumming is combined with guided meditation and visualization for the purpose of allowing clients to view themselves and their experiences from a different awareness, (not as easily achieved in a typical state of consciousness.)

Put simply, shamanic journeying is a method of communicating and interacting with your inner self, your soul, and your experiences to find answers, gain clarity, increase awareness, and improve emotional healing.

What are the session fees?

Initial intake sessions are ninety minutes with a fee of $225. A standard sixty- minute session is $150, and a thirty-minute session is valued at $75. Whether you are opting for meditation and mindfulness, Reiki energy healing, or Shamanic arts, all fees are the same based on session length.

Should cancellations be needed, as life often happens, I require 48-hour notice. Excluding emergencies (i.e. contagious illnesses, medical emergencies, death in the family, and inclement weather), the full fee will be charged for sessions cancelled with less than 48-hours’ notice.

If you’re feeling hesitant or questioning here, I completely get it. Wellness support- or any type of healing- is truly an investment in your past, current, and future self. It is so important to choose the right person to guide you during this time, and I would love the opportunity to connect with you for a free, thirty-minute video consultation to answer any questions you may have, as well as for you to get a feel for me and the way I show up for my clients. I deeply believe in this work, and will happily support you in connecting with the right person if for any reason it isn’t me.

Will insurance reimburse me for these services?

The short answer is (typically) not yet, but this always depends on your insurance policy.

Insurance coverage for alternative or complementary medicine varies widely depending on the provider, plan, and type of service. Energy healing practices (e.g., Reiki, chakra balancing) are often categorized as complementary or alternative medicine, not standard medical treatments.

It’s no secret that understanding insurance can feel complex at best. Here are some tips for determining with your insurance provider:

  • Check Your Insurance Plan:
    • Review your plan's policy on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
    • Look for specific coverage or flexibility under wellness or preventive care benefits.
  • Obtain a Prescription or Referral:
    • Some insurers require a referral from a primary care physician for CAM services to be considered eligible for reimbursement.
  • Document Necessity:
    • Provide detailed records of how the service contributes to your health improvement, especially if it's part of a broader treatment plan.
  • Utilize Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs):
    • Many CAM services, even if not covered directly by insurance, can be paid for using pre-tax funds from HSAs or FSAs. Check your policy to see if this applies to you.
  • Look for Wellness or Holistic Plans:
    • Some insurers offer supplemental or add-on plans that specifically include CAM services.
  • Use Employer Benefits:
    • Some employers offer wellness stipends or reimbursements for alternative treatments, even if insurance doesn’t cover them.

Understanding your specific policy and advocating for your needs is key to maximizing the chances of reimbursement for alternative or complementary medicine. I am dedicated to providing high quality and customizable services to my clients. I accept private pay for the services offered, which permits the flexibility to meet your individual needs.

I know this is an investment in YOU and that can feel conflicting with all of the other things going on in your life and with the people you love. I can assure you that taking this step will have a “ripple down” effect onto so many people that you love and support.

I am here for you if you have additional questions about this.

What payment methods are accepted?

I am able to accept credit and debit cards, as well as personal checks or cash. When booking your initial intake appointment, my secure online system will prompt you to place a credit or debit card on file. In some cases, dependent on your insurance policy, you can choose to utilize your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. Discerning your benefits is at your discretion.

At the time of the scheduled session, you have the option to utilize this stored form of payment, pay by personal check, or provide cash to your preference. In the event of a session cancelled with less than 48 hours-notice, the card on file will be billed for the full session payment. This excludes sessions cancelled for emergent reasons such contagious illness, medical emergencies, death in the family, and inclement weather. This policy is in place in an effort to permit ample time for the scheduling of clients who are waiting for appointment availability.
